The Brighter Ideas Project is an energy conservation campaign focused on informing individuals about the many ways they can
make a positive impact on the environment, the lives of others, and their wallet.
Since June 2006 The B.I.P. has given out about 200
FREE Compact
Fluorescent Light Bulbs to Berkshire Community College students and others in the Pittsfield MA area. I would like
to thank all who continue to contribute to the project with their bottles, time, and ideas. I would also like
to take this opportunity to state a goal of 1000 Bulbs distributed FREE over the next year, as well as
increasing the number of distribution locations. Thanks again!
Everyone gains from energy conservation...
It's true. If you take the steps described on this website, you will be helping to cut down on emissions from power plants
and exhaust from vehicles. This lowers the level of pollutants in the atmosphere that have all manner of negative effects,
from childhood asthma to acid rain and global warming. By using less energy produced from burning oil, coal, and natural
gas, we ALL win.
There is money to be saved...
One of the best ways to conserve energy and save money is to switch to compact fluorescent light
bulbs, or CFLs. These bulbs use the same technology as larger fluorescent light tubes. CFLs produce the same amount of light
while using only 25% of the energy a regular incandescent bulb uses. This one action can save you $5-$10 per month with an
initial cost of only $1 per bulb. Just think of the savings if you took ALL the steps suggested on this site!
How you can help others...
In this time of fluctuating energy prices, you can help friends and family by just telling them about the many ways to save
money through energy conservation. The main purpose of this website is to make it easier for people to inform one another.
All you need do is tell people about this site, and maybe give them a CFL and a informative pamphlet. (Read more about this
on our CFL Initiative page.)
